Nelson\Nygaard Boston Welcomes Geoff Slater, Principal
(See resume)
Together with Tim and Manuel in Seattle, Geoff Slater’s arrival
in our Boston office ensures that Nelson\Nygaard can offer hands-on
experience in designing, implementing and trouble-shooting all
aspects of transit operations from coast to coast.
Geoff has been involved in the planning and design of transit
services in North America and overseas since 1980. Before consulting,
Geoff was Director of Planning for Boston's MBTA, the fifth largest
transit agency in the country. There, he was responsible for short
range service planning, long range capital planning, development
of new services, and the development of new methods to improve
service quality and delivery. As part of this work, he developed
phase 1 of the Silver LIne, which was one of the first Bus Rapid
Transit services in the United States. Other notable projects
have included the redesign of commuter rail service throughout
post-apartheid South Africa, and the redesign of bus services
in many American cities.
Geoff's initial assignments at Nelson\Nygaard include being the
project manager for the Pittsburgh Port Authority Transit Development
Plan, which is intended to revitalize bus service in the Pittsburgh
area, and the George Washington Region Transit Policy Plan, which
includes the development of a new Regional Transportation Authority
to improve and expand transit in the Fredericksburg, Virginia
area.
