Mr. Harris recently joined Nelson\Nygaard to expand the firm’s east coast transit service planning practice. Ryan has experience consulting to small, medium and large transit systems, and has completed planning studies on local, express and rapid bus services, and light and heavy rail services.

Previous Experience
Jacobs, Edwards & Kelcey, Inc – New York, NY
Principal Planner, 2006 to 2008
  • Responsible for leading transit alternatives analyses and service planning studies
  • Led the development of preliminary designs, schedules, costs, ridership and evaluation of multiple rail and bus rapid transit alternatives, and coordinated outreach for the Kendall-Link study in southwest Miami-Dade County
  • Completed a detailed operational analysis of the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City using real-time checkpoint and gate data captured by wirelessly equipped surveyors
  • Provided technical and professional support to a commuter rail restoration study in Bucks and Montgomery Counties in Pennsylvania, and a range of short-term transit service planning studies in the New York Metropolitan area.

  • Represented the Authority and coordinated with city staff and community activists on all aspects of the planning process for the city’s Congestion Management Agency
  • Oversaw the Folsom Boulevard traffic-calming feasibility study the On-Street Parking Management and Pricing Study and the Columbus Avenue Neighborhood Transportation Study
  • Instrumental in the development of the Van Ness BRT alternatives analysis, and a wide range of transit and community-based transportation plans.

  • Worked directly with state, regional and local planners in support of neighborhood, metropolitan and statewide transportation planning studies
  • Responsible for sophisticated geospatial data analyses and the creation of a statewide map for the Maryland GreenPrint multi-use trails program
